Find, lock, or erase a lost KaiOS device

If you lose your KaiOS phone, you can find, lock, or erase it.

To find, lock, or erase a KaiOS phone, that phone must:

  • Be connected to a KaiOS Account
  • Be connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi

Find, lock, or erase KaiOS phone

  1. Sign in to your KaiOS account.
  2. Pick what you want to do.
  3. Remote lock: Locks your phone with your PIN or password.
    Remote wipe: Permanently deletes all data on your phone.
    Make ring: Rings your phone.

To ensure a secure and uninterrupted browsing experience following the expiration of Let’s Encrypt certification (Sep 2021), please follow the below steps to update your KaiOS phone if you see a browser warning or are unable to open an app. 

For phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 or above:
  1. Make sure your phone is connected to wifi or mobile data   
  2. Open KaiStore
  3. Press “Restart” when receiving a restart request message
For specific models* running KaiOS 2.5.1 or above:
  1. Make sure your phone is connected to wifi or mobile data   
  2. Open KaiStore
  3. Long press hang up button to exit KaiStore 
  4. Open KaiStore again, and an upgrade request message will pop up 
  5. Press “OK” to upgrade 
  6. Open KaiStore once again after completing the upgrade 
  7. Press “Restart” when receiving a restart request message 

*Specific models: Nokia 8000 4G, Nokia 6300 4G, and Go Flip3 TracFone.

Important: Go to Settings > Device > Device Information > Software > Software Update to check the current software version of your phone. Some devices, such as the Alcatel Go Flip 2, running below 2.5.1 do not support system updates. For more information, contact your KaiOS device manufacturer.

You can set up screen lock to prevent others from using your phone. Once you set up screen lock, you will be required to unlock your device with a pin or password when turning it on.

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Lock. 
  2. Turn Screen Lock on.
  3. Create and confirm 4-digit pin.

Using voice directions in Google Maps

KaiOS does not currently support voice directions for Google Maps. We are always improving the OS, so this feature may become available in the future.

The Google Assistant commands

For other Google services, KaiOS users maintain access to Google Maps, Google Search, and YouTube as usual.

You can ask The Google Assistant to perform a variety of tasks, including:

  • Opening the settings panel
  • Turning up the volume
  • Turning speech to text when inputting a message
  • Opening a YouTube video
  • Doing a search on Google Maps
  • Doing a search on Google
  • Asking trivia questions

Important: For KaiOS-enabled devices launched or in the inventory before Jun 30, 2021, Google Assistant remains in function until Jun 30, 2022. For devices launched after Jul 1, 2021, Google Assistant is no longer supported.

All KaiOS-powered devices running KaiOS version 2.5.1 or above* support WhatsApp. You can find information about specific devices on this page.

Important: You need a valid SIM card to activate WhatsApp.

*It’s not available on KaiOS 3.0. Please contact WhatsApp directly and let them you know you’d like a KaiOS version of the app at https://www.whatsapp.com/contact/?subject=messenger.

Important Notice regarding WhatsApp availability on KaiOS:

WhatsApp announced the sunset of its service on KaiOS platform.

  • For KaiOS-enabled devices purchased and activated before Jun-25-2024, if the user is already logged in WhatsApp, the application will remain functional until early 2025.
  • For devices where WhatsApp has never been logged in or users have logged out, WhatsApp is no longer supported, effective Jun-25-2024.

WhatsApp VoIP is available on eligible KaiOS phones with 512MB RAM and running the latest WhatsApp version 2.2110.41 or above.

For existing users:

Please update the current version of WhatsApp on your device. 

For new users:

The VoIP feature will be included in the latest version of WhatsApp, which is made available upon shipment.
